we'll talk with wayne lapierre, head of the nra in a moment. but, first, mark kelly, retired astronaut, navy captain and husband of former congresswoman gabrielle giffords who was shot two years ago. he and his wife launched a new group, "americans for responsible solutions." captain, let's start with your wife's dramatic testimony before a senate committee this week. >> you must act. be bold. be courageous, americans are counting on you. >> chris: how is gabby doing? >> she's doing great, chris. you know, she enjoyed being there. in front of the senate. it was a little bit of having her former job back, in a sense. being on capitol hill. >> chris: let's get to this debate. because your wife's shooting raises some of the questions at the core of the gun control controversy. jared loughner had been suspended from college because of concerns that he posed a danger to others and yet he was able to go to a store in tucson, pass the background check and buy the gun he used to shoot your wife. so, the question is, what good does it do to make more pe

wayne lapierre brought it up today. give him credit for that. 23 states in the district of columbia don't have submitted fewer than 100 mental health records. 17 states haven't even submitted ten and four states haven't submitted any mental records at all. isn't there a fair point to say that before we focus on expanding that we should enforce and execute the stuff we've got right? >> i think we have to do both. background checks work. what doesn't are loopholes in the system and we have to do everything to close those. those include updating our mental health records and including them in the background check system and then also requiring background checks for all guns sold in this country. right now, almost have the guns sold don't even require a background check, so that means that you can go into a gun store and be denied and drive down the street to a gun show and stock up on as many guns as you want and never have to take a criminal background check. >> that's the thing i don't understand. why is there a loophole

"b" the most extreme right end of the republican party base. i miean you look at this piece e wrote in the "daily caller." he says when the next terrorist attack comes, not with, just when, a paragraph that begins hurricanes, tornadoes, riots, terrorists, gangs, alone, criminals. there's a craziness about the rhetoric. so the only other thing i can think of reading this other than the fact you might have written it all is it's about the competit
